Photoshop plug-in makes color correction a breeze

By Lesa Snider King

Pros: SmartColor technology makes color correction easy; ordered tools produce optimal results; plug-in window can be positioned next to Photoshop document for side-by-side comparison.

Cons: Multiple SmartColor options can be confusing.

iWeb blogs - now even a baby can take comments on their blog
My husband Greg wanted to test out iWeb, but he really didn't have anything he wanted to blog about his life - so he created 'Bilbo Gehr's Blog From the Womb' just for practice. Check it out at http://bilbo.gehr.info/

Disappointed by the lack of integrated commenting support, he searched the web for a third-party solution. He found iComment .

iComment is freeware. It has worked perfectly well for our purposes and we are now able to accept comments on our blog from any species able to give them.

Mork Calling Orson?

Dateline Thursday 8th September.. 10:00am

Ok, so I have not logged onto YML today, and have not got to listen to the show for this week. More importantly I have forgotten that there was going to be an Apple announcement. I get to work and casually look at the BBC news website, and see a little article saying the new 'iPhone' had been released. Ok, so I am not overly bothered about that, but I read the story anyway. Just at the end is a throwaway sentence that they also announced a new iPod.

Now about my current iPod mini. It got dropped 100 days after I bought it, 10 days out of my credit card insurance cover.. It works, but the screen has had it. If I am creative with my playlists, I can arrange it so that I can still select anything on the bottom 2 lines of the screen. But because it works really, it plays music (well, podcasts and audio books) I cant be spending another £139 for a new one.

So I rush to the apple site, and am rewarded with the most beautiful looking ipod I've ever seen. Click on Store. Change to UK. Low and behold its only £139.

"You price it.... and they will buy"

I've never bought anything so fast.. Now to go home and explain it to the wife.

This morning I look at the order tracking, and amazingly its been shipped. Last time I did this it came from the far east and took about 10 days, but this time its already in the UK.

So now its in my hand. I think. If you look at this picture, you'll see that I have quite big hands and this dinky little thing is almost lost in them. When I was opening the box, which just looks like a double CD case, I had 8 people at work all watching me. They all loved it, as well as the look on my face when I realized that it was so small. The screen is fantastic. I've been listening to YML on the way back home from work, and agree with Shawn's comments about it hurting your thumb. If you are addicted to solitaire this thing is going to make you cry with thumb pain. But dont worry about that - it's so small you're going to loose it before you get the chance to permanently damage your thumb.

I have turned all of the office green with envy.

Near Riot Breaks out in Richmond VA
There was a near riot in Henrico County when the School District started to sell the 4 year old iBooks that the district purchased from Apple. Here is a link to a story in the Houston Chronicle:

A note to adventure game fans
As we all know, the Mac gets a lot of flack for the lack of games that are available.

And as it appears that Aspyr has canned development of CSI 2 the only adventure game heading our way is Myst V.

Fans of all types of adventure games, like the classics from Sierra and LucasArts to the first person titles such as Myst may be interested to know that if you head over to

http://www.bigbluecup.com/yabb/index.php?topic=21531.0

you can download a little app that lets you play a bunch of the games created on AGS, these games vary in size and quality, but there is some great stuff there.

More importantly there are professional games being made using this system.

For anyone that enjoys gothic adventures (think something in between Myst and the 7th Guest) I recommend downloading the AGS RunTime and then zipping over to

http://www.mysterymanor.net/HauntingsOfMysteryManor.htm

and grabbing a copy. If you want to know more about it, there are links to a couple of reviews. Okay, it's not as long as Knights of the Old Republic, but if you want to spend an evening wondering round a gothic mansion chatting to ghosts I can thoroughly recommend Hauntings of Mystery Manor.

Are You a Good Speaker?

I've called for "new blood" at the Macworld Expo conferences - new speakers for the Conference Tracks.

Paul Kent, the Conference Chair, rightly tells me to "put my money where my mouth is" and to help him get the word out.

Do you have an idea for a Macworld Conference? Would you like to stand up in front of fellow Mac users and talk about it? Well, Paul wants to hear from you.
