Final Cut Tips.com
I have had this domain for a little while now, and it was not until today that I was ever serious about doing something with it. Announcing Final Cut Tips. Final Cut Tips.com is kind of like Graphic Reporter.com just its for video, not graphics.
So far there are three articles up, thats because I have only done three pieces. The URL is www.finalcuttips.com. I would love your feedback on the site.
If you have any questions concerning Final Cut Pro, or video feel free to email me at [email protected].

Logan Ifípaan Gehr arrives!
Your Mac Life's newest listener arrived on Saturday April 29, 2006 at 9:12 PM. Proud parents Greg and Susan are at home figuring out his instruction manual.
See http://logan.gehr.info/ for pictures and details.
New MacBook Pro (almost)
Greg brought home a new MacBook Pro that he had to set up for someone at work. Maybe I’m easily entertained in my bedridden state, but it was lots of fun...at least until we realized that it was DOA. It did not start up easily, it did not wake from sleep and it would go to sleep any old time it felt like it, no matter what we tried. Fortunately, its replacement behaved much better...but here are the pictures of the first unveiling...

I'm dreamin' of a white ... THANKSGIVING?!?
This morning I woke up at about 3:00 AM from the cat. I got up and looked out the (fogged) window, and I saw white on the ground (In the light of the street light). Since I was still half-asleep, I just said 'meh' and went back to sleep.
When I woke up this morning, I looked outside and saw pouring snow!!! I just went out and measured, and we've gotten 4" of snow! Ever since my camera broke last year, I've been forced to take pictures from the computer with the iSight, so it's not that good. Maybe Santa (aka mother dearest) will bring me a camera this year ^.^ http://nixon.homeunix.com/~Ian/images/snow.jpg Well, I better go get ready for a long, hard winter. O.o Happy Turkey day! :-)
Has Anyone Got a 5G iPod?
I'd be interested to know how many people have one yet.
I live in Australia and was aware of the release event date. It ended about 4:00AM on Thu., 13 Oct. my time. I woke up at 6:00AM to check the website. After a quick run throught the specs I ordered one from the Apple Australia website at 6:22AM. I received mine last Wed., 26 Oct. From all indications, these things are very rare in Australia. I took it into David Jones (a major department store in Australia) to fit a case and 6 staff members clambered around me to look at it. They hadn't seen one. They don't know when they'll get them in stock. I'm invoking my boasting rights here, I know, but I'm very happy to have one and I'm glad I ordered direct from Apple to ensure fastest receipt. I have to assume that the US would have them in stores by now.

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates the Musical?
Ok, now I've seen everything: Nerds the Musical. The story of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.
The unusual production, slated for a brief run at an upcoming New York festival, pokes plenty of fun at the software titans and their longstanding rivalry. But it also underscores their standing as cultural icons, especially for younger people. This article also has an excerpt from a song from the show. Gates sings: I could buy the whole world now with only just a third of my fortune, I'm cool now, haven't you heard? This Microsoft Office is no longer for a nerd My Outlook Excels me to my PowerPoint -- Word! Check out the article here. And check out some pictures here.
My Little Pony Destroys My Little iBook
Last Wednesday just before the YML live show (that wasn't) my 20 month old son and I were getting ready to play some Sesame Street games on my iBook G4. While waiting for the site to load he was given a My Little Pony to play with and he pranced it across the trackpad and the white spaces on either side. All of a sudden the hard drive began to make scratching noises, sputter and sounded like a hard drive booting up Windows XP on a PC, it was really loud. I put my son down on the floor and tried to figure out what was going on, only the menu bar responded to input, I hit shut down, but nothing happened. I finally just powered it off and waited a minute or two then turned it back on. Nothing, just a gray screen and the sound of the loudest laptop hard drive you have ever heard. Scratch, scratch, scratch. I ran Disk Utility and DiskWarrior which could see the disk but could not repair it. I tried Targer Disk Mode to make it mount on my wife's PowerBook but to no avail. Upon calling Apple they told me to run disk utility and guess what, Disk Utility now refused to acknowledge that a hard disk even existed there. So I must send it in to get replaced.
GOOD THING I HAD A BACKUP OF EVERYTHING (almost) The only thing I lost really were the latest source code to iTattle and WIdget Master which I'll have to go back and redo. In looking at the My Little Pony that my son was playing with we found it had a magnet on the foot. WHY?? In case you want your pony to climb Mt. Refrigerator? Who would have ever thought that. So thanks to little ponies who scamper though rainbows and clouds bringing rays of sunshine on kids who like to brush hair, I have no hard drive. I blame no one for what happened because after all, who knew. This is just another example of BACKUP DAY saving the day. |
