It's Showtime - Apple Media Event

My screwup notwithstanding, Apple has (finally) announced the media event we "predicted" on last week's show.

Colin Crawford writes:
"After rampant speculation Apple finally accounced its special, invite only, media event to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco. With the "showtime" subject matter the theme will obviously be around movies and T shows. /

"Will this be the rumored streaming or download movies service from Apple - potentially coupled with a new video iPod? Let the speculation intensify!"

Ooops....Sorry....
Mea culpa....

I screwed up *big* time on last Wednesday's show.

One of the hardest things to do on a live radio show is read text, comprehend it and talk about it all at the same time. Usually, I can do it pretty well but this past Wednesday was not a shining moment for me.

I got an "anonymous" email during the show. The email stated *many* things, most of them incredible, some of them unbelievable and some of the very exciting (in a "journalism scoop" kinda way).

While trying to read and comprehend the email, I stated on the show that I had just gotten an "official" email from Apple regarding a Press Invite to an event during the "2nd week of September". The email I received was *not* officially from Apple - it was *not* a typical Apple Invite to their press events.

But, in trying to get the info in the email out to the audience, i screwed up and claimed it was something it was not. I apologize to Apple in particular and to anyone else who was confused or upset by what I said.

If you listen during the show, you can hear J, Lesa and I trying to "figure out the date" the Press Event would happen - if we had an official invite from Apple, it would have included the date. We just put two and two together to come up with the Sept 12th date - after all, it makes sense. Apple often announces new things on Tuesday and Tuesday the 12th is the opening day of the Apple Expo in Paris.

The emailer also followed up by telling me I was incorrect to ignore the idea of the "iPhone". Apple *will* announce it next week, it will be with a major US carrier (most likely Cingular) and will be "fixed media based" - that is, it won't used removable cards.

It is described as an "ipod with a phone attached" and will have a touchscreen that changes based on what you are doing - if using the phone, you'll see phone features and if using the music features, you'll see those controls.

Now, keep in mind this is all *rumors* from an unnamed source. There has been *no* confirmation from Apple or anyone else in the know. Nothing but the above info and other speculation both on our part and on the part of other web sites. We'll just have to wait and se how it all shakes out.

Does the iChat Mobile concept make sense?

Recently, a picture of something called iChat Mobile appeared on Engadget. I have no idea whether the picture is real or not, but the concept of a VoIP phone and a mobile iChat device seems to make good sense, as opposed to an Apple-branded cell phone.

Visit my lame-ass web site to read why I think this makes so much sense, and then feel free to leave your comments there, or in the comments section just underneath this article.

Party Poker Recognizes Macs With Beta
You may have remembered my previous story about Party Poker potentially coming to the Mac. Well it's arrived in beta form.

We're getting a Java based program and that may be why Party Poker kept denying they were coming out with a Mac version. While Java is not native it still works perfectly on most browsers including working on a Mac.

For awhile there it looked like they were going to follow Fulltiltpoker.com and their native software but I guess it's not the case.

After testing the beta there are a lot of things they are working on. The graphics were superb but some minor glitches were found. All that can be expected in a beta.

Play money games are available right now but real money is not. It will be once the beta gets straightened out and they launch the full version.

They have hidden the download source from the homepage viewers but will most likely link up the no download version when beta testing is over. In the news story we did you can find where to download the beta.

Here is the full story about Party Poker for Macintosh .
