The Graphic Reporter's Tip of the Week

On last night's show I talked about how to fade one photo into another in Photoshop Elements, hopefully giving folks ideas for creative collages and montages of all kinds. Hope you enjoy the tutorial!

Friday we're off to the Women's Sportbike Rally at Deal's Gap in the Smoky Mountains. Vroom vroom!

Apple Expo in Paris or London MacExpo?

With the unfortunate announcement that there will be no Steve Jobs Keynote at Apple Expo in Paris - in fact, no keynote at all (and what an interesting turn of phrase from the show's organizers - "the decision not to offer a keynote was not taken by (Reed Expositions)"), going to Paris just became a more "interesting" decision.

There's another show Your Mac Life would like to go to - The MacExpo in London.

Your Mac Life has "done" the Paris show for the past 5 years - we've never been to the London show. Granted, the Paris show, Keynote or not, is a more "important" event - it's the biggest Mac Exposition in the world with many products from Apple and others being announced and introduced there.

But one of the hallmarks of Your Mac Life is that we are always looking for stuff that is new and different and, to be quite honest, there's not much new or different we're really going to see in Paris.

Now London - London *would* be "different". While the show itself is nowhere near as large as the Paris show, in theory we speak the language of *every* vendor at the show so we would be able to talk to more potential interview subjects.

Then there's London itself - different city, food, people, atmosphere, pubs, sights, etc. than we've experienced before.

From our point of view, it's a tough call - both shows have their pluses and minuses. Granted, we *could* do both shows but with other things going on, we'd rather not.

That's why we've posted the poll question on the right - where would *you* like us to report from next? Let us know what you think.

The Graphic Reporter's Tip of the Week

On last night's show I talked about how to use a photo to create texture for type. It's a great way to create grungy or distressed type. Hope you enjoy the tutorial!

Until next week, may the force be with you :)

The Graphic Reporter's Tip of the Week

On last night's show I talked about how to create a silhouette a la Apple's iPod ads. It's an easy technique if you have the right kind of picture, otherwise, it'll be a little time consuming, but still lots of fun. Hope you enjoy the tutorial!

Next week I'm off to Detroit again. Until next time, may the force be with you :)

Lesa King has a New Looq
I was checking out the article at Mac Central about a new input device and thought, "That that looks a lot like Lesa King" in the small thumbnail at the lower side image.

And if you check out the name in the title bar (if you look at the larger image) it says Lesa.

She sure is becoming a celebrity!

On last night's show I talked about how to turn a photo into a creative color cartoon. Hope you enjoy the tutorial half as much as I enjoyed coming up with the technique :)

Be sure to check out my review of the Olympus Evolt-330 too. More on this wonderful camera soon!

And finally, if you're in Calgary I'd love to hear from you as I'll be there Monday night through Friday afternoon. Cheers!

I'm also proud to announce the new DavidPogue.com site is LIVE! Woo hoo!

Until next week, may the force be with you :)

Welcome back Circus Ponies! Catch them at the NECC.

Yes, yes, the show wouldn't exist without Shawn in all his doofusness and his amazing ability to multi-task, J to do the great video work that he does and push all the right buttons, Peter, our gaming guru, Lesa with all her graphics tips and me to uh, well do whatever it is that I do (and when the airconditioning dies in studio, we can't even do that)....

....but the show truly wouldn't exist without our wonderful listeners and the great sponsors and advertisers that we have: Griffin Technology, Radtech, Circus Ponies, Digital Forest and the folks at iStockPhoto.com.

Tonight, before we were so rudely interrupted by air conditioning failure, we were going to announce that Circus Ponies has renewed as an advertiser for another year and we're thrilled to have them continue to be part of the Your Mac Life family. To Jayson, Elizabeth (in absentia as she embarks on her writing career) and everyone at Circus Ponies, we thank you!

For those of you attending the National Educational Computing Conference or NECC in San Diego, CA from July 5 through to July 7, please stop by Circus Ponies' booth (#133) and say hi to the great folks manning their booth (Jayson will be the really busy guy losing his voice) and take the time, if you can, to learn more about their great program "Notebook" and to thank them for their support of Your Mac Life. We'd appreciate it and I know that they would love to meet some more of our listeners.

~ Sly

Tonight's Show Cancelled :(
Sorry folks.....the air conditioning is broken in our studio...it's over 95 degrees in here and we are having brownouts that are screwing with our gear. We're worried something is going to get fried if we don't turn it all off.

We've called the AC folks but they won't get here until tomorrow....

Our apologies for the inconvenience.
