The Graphic Reporter's Tip of the Week
Contributed by: Lesa
This week's tip is all about scanning black & white documents. See how easy it is to both straighten and clean up "paper crud" using Photoshop Elements in this illustrated, step-by-step tutorial.
Widget of the Week goes to RabbitRadio! Listening to NPR has never been so much fun :)
See you next week!
The Graphic Reporter's Tip of the Week

Last night's graphics tip was how to say bye-bye to halos or "transitional edges" as some fancy folks call them. This trick will show you how to make sure that the edges of whatever it is you’ve “knocked out” (lifted off the background from whence it came) blends in nicely with its new home or background.
Widget of the Week goes to the puzzle game Slider.
See you all next week!
YML Cancellation
Contributed by: Shawn
Hosting Your Mac Life is usually pretty easy. All you really need to do is sit in front of the computer and talk into the microphone.
Unfortunately, Yours Truly is too sick to do either of those things today. :(
Tonight's show has been canceled and the guests rescheduled for next week. For the Audible.com subscribers, you will be credited a week.
Our apologies for the cancellation but, if you could hear me right now, you wouldn't want to listen for the next two hours.....
I'm going to bed now....(sniffle, hack, cough)
Apple Includes YML's Widget!

Our very own Video Guru J (with a little help from fellow listener DJ Macintosh) created this Dashboard Widget for all of you Tiger users who listen in to the show.
It is now up on the Apple Widget site!
Our iPod mini Winner!

Here's the picture of me and my iPod mini that you asked for.
I listen to it in the car I am allowed to drive, whenever I go somewhere. I got a blue mini to go with a blue car.
I enjoy listening to the show. Now you know why I picked blue. :)

Calling All Chefs (or Chef Wannabee's).....

....we are resurrecting the "YML Cookbook" project!
In an attempt to offer our listeners something a little different, Your Mac Life is planning to produce a cookbook made up of recipes from you, the "bread and butter" of Your Mac Life, the YML listener. Once completed, the cookbook will be made available for sale through Cafe Press and since we want this to be a collaborative effort between ourselves and our listeners, YML staff will contribute a recipe here and there as well.
So until July 6th, we will be collecting your recipes; if you're interested, please email your favourite *ORIGINAL* recipes to Sly at [email protected] with the subject line "Recipe Submission".
Our team of chefs (okay Sly and Lesh and anyone else we can bamboozle into helping us out) will attempt to test most of the recipes to ensure that you actually meant to include chocolate in that recipe for Nachos.
Whether you have a sweet tooth, or gravitate to the more savoury side, we wanna hear from you. We'll have a section for Appetizers, Beverages, Salads, Main Courses, Sides and Desserts. If a recipe doesn't fall under any of those categories, we'll put it in the Miscellaneous section, for which you are advised to attempt the recipes at your own risk. :-)
Short bios and/or photos will be included of anyone who contributes to the cookbook, so don't forget to send along some information about yourself, the origin of the recipe (how it came to be created) along with a fairly high resolution photo of yourself. If you would prefer not to have a bio or a photo included, please mention that as well. (This is our very loose interpretation of a "release form".) And while we can't offer compensation for any recipes received, we are certain that the pure satisfaction of participating in this project and the adulation of your peers will be reward enough. ;-) As well, we can't guarantee that your recipe will pass mustard the first time around, but if we get enough submissions - can you say "Volume 2"?
We think this will be a fun way to continue what we feel is a very important and successful aspect of our show - the inclusion of our listeners in much of what we do! So put on your aprons and dust off those utensils.....the YML Cookbook is coming to a kitchen near you!
The Graphic Reporter's Tip of the Week

This week's tip is how to create a clipping group in Photoshop, that is, bringing an image through text. If you missed the show, be sure to check out the full, step by step tutorial on my web site at the above link.

Until next week, peace, love, and Photoshop :)
YML Audible Subscription 50% Off!

Steve B writes:
Shawn ..
Audible just sent me a renewal offer .. I took it .. and it had a great YML side benefit. It's the Ultimate Listener program - $119 - for 12 books (you have two years to pick them) .. but subscriptions are 50% off .. and additional books are 20% off.
When it came time to renew my YML subscription .. (can't not have my YML while I am in Europe for a month on Vacation!) .. it hit the shopping cart at 50% off. What a deal!
Thought I would pass this along.

This week's tip is a step-by-step tutorial on how to create layer masks in Adobe Photoshop Elements. Once you know the trick, it's simple as pie.
And our Widget of the Week is (insert drum roll) iTunesLyrics.
Until next week, may the Photoshop force be with you :)
