Activate two-finger scrolling on supported pre-2005 PowerBooks and iBooks
This web site explains how to activate 2 finger scrolling on pre-2005 PowerBooks and iBooks.

There is a terminal command to check if your machine has the ability, and then instructions on how to activate.

I've tried it and on my 17" PowerBook - and it works just fine.

Thought you guys might be interested.

Overclocking Your Mac mini
I just read an article on how to overclock your Mac mini to 1.5 or 1.58 GHz cpu speed. Obviously it's done without Apple's approval, but aren't all great hacks? You can find the directions Here.

Cracking open the mini
Last week on the show Aaron, Jay, and Shawn got into a debate about opening the mini voiding the warranty. Well I stumbled across a film where it seems to me that opening the mini is almost as easy as a G5.

Eliminate the need for a KVM switch for your Mac mini
Most people I know who want a Mac mini want to run it concurrently with their existing Windows machine. Usually that means you need a KVM switch to change a single keyboard and mouse between systems. If you have two displays, one USB keyboard, one USB mouse, a Mac mini, and a Windows system, there is a free software solution that will spare you the cost of a KVM switch.

AppleJack: A File System Maintenance Tool

Contributed by: Aaron

Every now and again, Mac users may have a reason to perform certain file system maintenance tasks. Mac OS X, like most operating systems, cannot perform those tasks while the system volume is mounted. This means the machine has to booted into single user mode by holding down command-S during the Mac startup chime and running these maintenance utilities from the command line.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone wrote a script to automate such things for the Unix impaired?

Using Minicom on your Mac for serial communications

One of my duties as both a network admin and a consultant is to manage switches, routers and firewalls. Depending on the circumstances, establishing a telnet or SSH session to the device isn't always possible and a console connection has to be used.

For such serial communications, Windows comes with an app named Hyperterminal. Mac OS X doesn't come with an equivalent. A Shareware app named ZTerm ($20) is available and it certainly does the job, but an alternative named Minicom can do it for free.

Check out this article at AaronAdams.net to find out how to set up Minicom on your Mac.
