There is nothing here for a Subaru Outback Sport.
It's and SUV--yet it's a small 4 door. It doesn't fall under the usual image of
a big gas sucking SUV, but has all the other benefits. My gas mileage is
excellent and I still get 4 wheel drive.

SUV does not have to be synonymous with gas-sucking. I drive a Honda CRV that's considered a SUV, but it gets 27mpg for my commuting.
I almost went with a Subaru Forester when I was shopping for cars a year ago. If gas had cost then what it does now, I think I would gotten that. Their mileage is 30 something.

My first car was a 4 door sedan - a now extinct car made by British
Leyland (Australia) called the P76. I used to get 13 mpg. When the P76
Club ran an economy competition run, the winner got 17mpg...

I loved my 'P'...

I also drive a Honda CR-V. Great mileage, very comfortable, and the best safety ratings in the small SUV class.

The only drawback is it's virtually impossible to get an AUX input installed for the sound system without disconnecting the CD player/switcher. Oh well, we all have issues...

I just test drove a tiny Smart Car in Germany. Oh, man. I've GOT to have one of
those! Supposedly they will be slowly imported to the U.S. by this company:

I may drive a 2-door coupe, but it has a 110-inch wheel base with a 5 liter V8.

Daily transportation is mainly a 2-door coupe, but I also drive a motorcycle when the weather cooperates and 4x4 truck for snow and hauling things (and yes, Shawn, towing things is neat!). The motorcycle is a Vulcan VN800A. Looking back on it, I wish I spent the extra money for the Classic version. Jay will have a lot of fun with it! By the way, I can hit 90 m.p.h. from a dead stop to third gear coming off an on ramp onto the highway by my house.

I drive a 1984 Mercedes 300TD station wagon. It feels so great pulling into a station next to someone who's paying $2.50 for gas while I'm paying $2.10 for diesel :-)

Speaking of which, why isn't "station wagon" one of the choices for the poll? I mean, sure they've all but been replaced by SUVs, but still, they're a part of American automotive history :-)

1992 Ford Explorer....first car I ever bought new-- ordered it custom, in
fact, with no big $ options and a reverse option of manual hubs and floor
shift. It's a two door and a purty colour, and I intend driving it till it falls
apart around me-- which, coincidentally, it shows no sign of doing.

Worth it:

-Automatic transmission ( I know, I know, I just never learned how)
-Manual 4WD--"shift on the fly" is just a lot mor electronics to go wrong.
-manual windows, instead of power (see above)
-no cruise control, power seats or door locks

So NOT worth it:

-Rust Protection and Fabric Guard. (what a rip off, and such a hassle
when I did have to make a claim, but I prevailed, because I'm tenacious)

Wish I hadda:

-air conditioning.....wish I had, eveb considered installing it after-market
when the babies were born...but that's my olny regret, car wise

(-:

Volkswagen Golf TDI...4 door hatchback...Didn't see it in the list, so thus
voted "other". Unlike others, diesel here actually costs a couple cents
more per litre than gas...But I still get to drive a long way more per tank
than a lot of other cars.

3 digits on the speedometer and all three are reachable . . . even in a 12
year old one without the turbo.

And I only have one award from the highway patrol in that time.

Here in Davis, I can walk from one end of town to the other in approximately 2.5
hours. The university (actually, the student body) runs a bus system that takes me
to where I want to go very cheaply. There is also an Amtrak station downtown that
takes me to the San Francisco Bay Area and an intercity bus service that takes me
into Sacramento. There is really no reason for me to own my own motor vehicle
which is why I LOVE living here!

Citroën C3 4-door hatchback supermini
Probably small enough to go in the back of Lesa and
Shawn's truck.

Turbocharger + intercooler......er....1.4 diesel. But
hey!...92bhp is enough for me. Plus it's a diesel, so it's all
about torque which makes it fun on twisty b-roads and mid-
range acceleration. 60mpg. Just don't ask about 0-60
times!

And...it's paint scheme is "Misty Lilac"....Shawn, you should
have had your laptop painted with this. You would have been
so proud ;-)

Had to pick other since I've got a 5-door, i.e. four-door hatch. Awesome
car (Toyota Echo) with excellent mileage, flexible interior, impressive build
quality (considering the sub $20,000 Cdn. price) and gutsy, refined motor.
In my opinion easily the best low-cost car available in the Canadian
market. The hatch isn't available in the States. Pity.
