(Thanks to Neal Carter, Maurice Shevalier, Paul Driver, Phil Connor, Rory Gillespie, John Haugaard, Lynda Fudold and, most recently, Dennis Jones, Sly is in Nashville!)
Well made it through Customs yet again. They tried to trip me up by asking me how long I knew the friends I was visiting in Nashville for and when I said 15 years, he asked how. Told him we work on an internet radio show about Mac computers..."oh so you're going for business?" he asks after I had already told him I was going for pleasure/visiting friends. I say "no, it's visiting friends; I don't get paid for working on the radio show, ya silly".
He didn't smile. Must be a PC user.
So I sit at Vancouver International Airport waiting on my flight to Vegas, and then I have a 2.5 hour layover there (oh oh) before I hop on a plane to Houston...and then at 7 sumthin in the a.m., I board another plane, and I better end up in Nashville after that. Flight to Vegas is delayed by 30 minutes, so at least that's 30 minutes less in Vegas that I need to worry about losing money. And there appears to be a very young baby going to Vegas. How do i know this you ask, IT'S CRYING!!
Oh well, the good news is that I got an Exit Row seat for this flight. If something goes wrong, I'll be the first one off...wheee!
More from the road later....only time will tell if that Angus burger from Burger King was a good or bad idea.
Hey J, how does Thursday night sound for tattoo night?? [/i] |

Whew! What a trip.
Left my house at 4:40pm for the airport on March 13th and touched down at Nashville International (BNA) at 9:10am, March 14th. Flight to Vegas was uneventful, and I got to stretch my legs out in the Exit Row, sitting next to a lovely couple heading to Phoenix to visit their daughter.
The skyline of Vegas never ceases to amaze me as we flew into McCarran International, with all the neon and hotels lit up like that. I've stayed at the Monte Carlo, so seeing it brought back fun memories...and the new Wynn Hotel is huge. Unfortunately, I was changing airlines (America West to Continental), so I had to take the train to the D Terminal. I finally get there, and realize I have to go through security again. Get to the Security area and the line-up seems to zig zag for miles. Ugh. Good thing I have 2 hours or so to kill at the airport since my flight doesn't leave until 1am to Houston, but thankfully they opened up more screening lines - I have never heard people cheer for Security before.
Continental flight to Houston was okay, albeit the longest leg of the trip (which, in the grand scheme of things, wasn't that long) packed to the rafters in what feels like more cramped seating than normal. There was a younger couple sitting beside me, the girl was wearing a black Stetson that had to have weighed more than her, and a camouflage skirt to the ground and a camouflage shrug top - I'm not quite sure what look she was going for. Tried sleeping, since I wouldn't arrive in Houston until 6am-ish Houston time, but it was tough. Arrived in Houston no problem...in search of coffee, but unbeknownst to me, I had to take a train to my next gate...ugh. Finally found it, but apparently left the only Starbucks back in the other terminal, so had coffee at a little stand (not good) before catching my last flight, into Tennessee. A little plane, with single row seating on one side, which was nice, though again, tight tight quarters. No issues and we actually touch down about 20 minutes early.
Napped for a bit on Shawn/Lesa's couch before heading to dinner and the hockey game later on last night - I had a yummy Fried Catfish sandwich at Rippy's Smokin Bar & Grill across from the Gaylord Center. Met a guy there from Abbotsford, BC (originally from Oklahoma) who had stopped by our table since we were wearing Canucks jerseys/tshirts, and saw him again at the game. Walking over to the arena from Rippy's, we saw a little boy with a Canucks jersey on, whose father had said to us "oh good my son will have company then" - I had a flashing Canucks lapel pin and gave it to the kid - figured he'd get a kick out of it more than me. He was too cute.
Sadly, the game, from a Canucks fan's point of view, was not good, but the Predators fans sure do have fun at the games. During the introductions of the starting lineups, after each Canucks player is intro'd, the fans yell "You Suck". And after every goal, they all yell "it's your fault" to the goalie.
Great seats though, it's a shame the Canucks didn't appear all that interested in playing well. Once again silly penalties and squandered power plays did us in. Oh and a goalie who ducks doesn't help either.
Wednesday will be a quiet day, preparing for tonight's show so until later, here are some pictures of the Gaylord Entertainment Center and surrounding area.
More later from Nashville..... |

Gosh, no worries. No one needs to feel obligated or bad for not contributing...trust me! I understand tight budgets. I appreciate the thought. |

Why don't you create a new thread for these maps. I'd do it but you should get the credit.

More later from Nashville..... |
Well, we had a great trip to Chattanooga (Ruby Falls, Rock City, etc.) and then onto Atlanta, GA, for some shopping, drinking and eating (oh ya, and Shawn and Lesa went to some motorcycle show. We tried to get to the Georgia Aquarium, but when we got there at 10:45am, they were only selling tickets for the 1pm entry....so we went to the Apple Store at Lenox Square Mall instead.
The Chattanooga Choo Choo stop was disappointing, but at least I can now cross it off my list and don't ever have to go back. heh
I'm almost on my way to the Nashville Airport to wing my way back to Vancouver (via Chicago and Portland, Oregon); don't touch down until about 5:46pm Vancouver time this evening. Another long trip, but thanks to Lesa and Shawn, it was a worthwhile trip.
Of course it can't go without saying, thanks to ALL the listeners who contributed to "Sly's Trip to Nashville" - could not have done it without y'all.
Catch ya from the Great White North later this evening.
Sly
p.s. And to respond to Fishwheel's comments, on this trip alone, I have been in Las Vegas, NV, Houston, TX, Nashville, TN, apparently a little bit through Alabama and of course, Atlanta, GA. On the way back I'll touch down in Chicago, IL and Portland, OR. Geez, no wonder I'm tired. |

LOL. Sorry John.
When the Georgia Aquarium idea fell through, we talked about other places we could go to before heading back to Nashville on Sunday - we thought IKEA or the Apple Store at Lenox Square Mall. But of course none of us thought to get the addresses before we left the hotel that morning thinking that we'd be spending the time at the aquarium.
So who do we call in that situation - no, not the Ghostbusters, but Mr. John "Bynkii" Welch himself. Thankfully he was home and near his computer so he could look up the addresses for us.
So thanks to John for finding us the addresses, and Neverlost for getting us there.
Ultimately we decided to go to the Lenox Square Mall, where I ended up getting the in-ear headphones lanyard for my Nano at the Apple Store. Lesa and I also spent about an hour in the Sephora store - I was the "champeen" shopper that Sephora visit.
