I'm well aware of the situation. I've kept close track of hurricane events since a couple of days before landfall and I've heard quite a number of survivors recount their stories. America as a whole has responded with enormous generosity. In fact, I was reading an article from my hometown newspaper about how Dayton residents are sending a truckload of supplies for the surviving pets of the hurricane. Our generosity toward the region obviously goes beyond humans to the point where we care enough and have the abundance to assist pets as well. (And as a pet owner, I'm happy to read that.) I have to wonder if that "truth" is getting the same coverage on, say, NPR, as the blurb on the front of the YML site about people being assaulted by helicopters and having their supplies stolen by police.

I'm not doubting the validity of anyone's story. My objection is that the story (stories?) is being labeled as the truth, which I find to be a gross oversimplification of the situation and maybe a bit sanctimonious. There are likely quite a number of "truths" that will come out of the gulf coast in the coming months. Corrupt police, careless National Guard volunteers, and armed posses of do-gooders are no more truthful than their inverses.
